My Favorite Recipes

If you know me, you know I love to cook and try new recipes. I am not one to venture outside of my comfort zone with new foods, but I like to try new ingredients and flavors. My sister and I share the same passion for cooking and since I’m home, we have been spending quite a bit of time in the kitchen together. In my blog, I want to share some of my favorite go-to recipes!

My first recipe is one of my all-time favorites. It’s a chicken marinade that pairs well with any side dish.
Ingredients:
½ cup EVOO
½ cup balsamic vinegar (or any type of vinegar)
¼ cup soy sauce (I love to use Liquid Aminos which is a natural soy sauce)
¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
Juice of 1 lemon
¾ cup brown sugar
2 tsp dried rosemary
2 tbsp Dijon mustard
2 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
2 tsp garlic powder
I combine everything in a measuring cup, starting with the liquids, and whisk together. I've made it so often that I just kind of dump ingredients in until it looks right! In my opinion, I don’t think you can really mess this recipe up. You can marinate 6 chicken breasts for little as four hours and up to 24. It’s the best on the grill and basted with the remaining marinade, but the stovetop works just as well. I like to eat the chicken over rice, or just alone with a side of green beans and potatoes.

My second recipe is another staple in the Hartings’ house. The recipe is a delicious turkey burger that satisfies a burger craving, without the calorie guilt.
Ingredients:
1 lb ground turkey
1 cup diced red onion
1 cup shredded cheese
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp onion powder
½ tsp salt
½ tsp paprika
½ tsp garlic powder
¼ tsp cayenne pepper
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and form into medium sized patties. Cook turkey burger until the center is no longer pink. I love to top my burger with homemade guacamole and Dijon mustard in between a toasted bun. The best side dish for this burger are seasoned sweet potato fries!

Every good dinner comes to an end… with dessert! I am the type of person who needs something sweet before leaving the table. This recipe actually comes from a cooking class I attended a couple years ago.
Ingredients:
4 cups 1” angel food cake pieces
2½ cups berries (strawberries, raspberries, or blackberries)
4 tbsp sugar, divided
1 tsp lime zest
½ cup heavy cream
2 tbsp sour cream
Preheat oven to 375°. Spread angel food cake pieces on a parchment-lined baking sheet and toast until golden brown, about 8-10 minutes. Stir together your choice of berries with 2 tablespoons sugar and lime zest in a small bowl. Beat the heavy cream, sour cream and remaining 2 tablespoons sugar in a bowl until soft peaks form, about 2 minutes. Layer cake, berries and cream mixture in a tall, narrow glass or bowl and top with zest. It’s the perfect dessert for an outdoor dinner during the summertime!

  1. As you know, I really struggle with cooking. So I'm pretty excited to live with you next year so you can cook for me. One of my skills I'm trying to learn over quarantine is cooking so I think I'm going to try these recipes out! The dessert one is my favorite but they all sound so good.

  2. I tried the chicken marinade on the grill and it was amazing! I have been struggling with what I should make for dinner lately, so I am so happy that you posted this recipe! I also really want to make the turkey burger, I just have to get ground turkey first!
