I am Positive...

We have made it to the last blog. It feels like 13 blogs is a lot, but time has flown by. I’m ending this semester in the best way possible… in quarantine. Totally kidding! I actually ended up testing positive which is truly mind-blowing. After seeing the COVID statistics on TV and hearing the horror stories of this nasty virus, I always thought… there’s no way I could get it. Well, here I am on day “who knows” of being in isolation. Most days, I have this “aha moment” of realizing I seriously have the COVID. The answer to how I, along with two of my roommates, contracted the COVID is still up in the air. Not knowing exactly where and when it came from is frustrating. I was tested Friday after being contact traced and developing systems. Since then, I’ve been hunkering down in Ada, because I obviously didn’t want to bring the COVID home to my family. My symptoms started just being a stuffy and runny nose with an earache. Just your typical weather-related sickness. As the days went on,

We Are Nearing The End

We are turning the corner and nearing the end of fall semester. The assignments I’ve put off are catching up and it’s crunch time. My final exam schedule is very light, but what feels like a hundred projects and a thousand meetings are keeping me from winter break. The fall semester has gone EXTREMELY fast and I can’t believe we’re already starting week 12. All I can think about is… how would the semester have looked if COVID wasn’t a thing? What would be our volleyball record? Could we have won the OAC finals? What if we could have traveled to Georgia as a team? These questions arise daily, but there will never be an answer. As winter break is approaching, I am getting excited to spend more time with my family and Tyler’s family, have the opportunity to work at my internship again and Christmas! I’ve seen my parents and sister quite a bit during the semester, but I haven’t seen my grandparents, aunts, uncles or my cousins in what feels like forever. Christmas is my favorite holiday be

A Fun Weekend at the Winery

Having roommates that are also your best friends is special. The five of us have an inseparable bond. We have hilarious inside jokes, hundreds of memories and of course… thousands of pictures to remember. We switched it up this past weekend and made our way to Sycamore Lake Wine Company in Columbus Grove, Ohio. I promise… we had a DD because we weren’t sure where the day would take us. This was my first time going to a winery ever and as a lover of wine, I can’t believe it took me this long. The atmosphere was so pretty, even on a dreary and windy fall day. After taking pictures outside, we found our way inside to listen to the entertainment. I started by tasting five different wines. If you ever go, my top 2 favorites were Sycamore Sunset and Chocolate Covered Bridge. At Sycamore Lake, they have strawberry and peach wine slushies… which I was skeptical about. Let me tell you… the mixed frozen concoction was NEXT LEVEL. The day was perfect, not only because we drank delicious wine at

Just a Typical Food Blog...

Another week means another blog. This week I am fresh out of any good ideas to blog about. I even googled “blog inspiration” and still nothing. I scrolled through hundreds of ideas but found myself staring at a blank word doc. I happened to be writing this during lunchtime and a little hungry, so what better thing to blog about than food! I love to bake and cook. Ever since I was a young girl, I always was in the kitchen doing something. At one point, I wanted to open my own bakery and make cakes, cupcakes and cookies. Baking was a passion that was temporary and sounded good at the time… but I knew it wasn’t realistic. I still enjoy it, but only like to bake here and there. Aside from baking, I really enjoy cooking. I have no idea where my love for cooking came from, but hey… I’ll take it. My favorite sister bonding activity with Erika (my sister obviously) is going grocery shopping, meal planning and cooking together. During the summer months, we always would cook together and make ou

Our First Volleyball Game in 10 Months

As I have mentioned previously, I am on the volleyball team here at Ohio Northern. Due to COVID, we don’t have a fall season and now we are playing from March to April… hopefully! We have been practicing since August, and we finally progressed into Phase III on Saturday. Phase I consisted of practicing in groups less than 10, Phase II was full team, but no live play and Phase III is the full team and FULL GO! If you’re an athlete, you’ll be able to relate, but practice drains you. When you are consistently practicing, without competition and a game setting, you get burnt out. After weeks and weeks of drill work and conditioning, we finally got to play! We had an inter-squad game on Friday night, and we treated it as a real-life game day. Even if we were playing against each other, something about being in uniform made it feel real. On ONU Volleyball's Facebook , I created a private group for our friends and family to enjoy via live stream. Like many others, my family was so pumped

Party Planning: Em Brock's 21st Birthday

Image
This past weekend, my roommates and I celebrated a national holiday. No, we didn’t celebrate national daughter’s day or the first day of fall, but Emily Brock’s 21 st birthday. The baby of the crew is FINALLY 21 and legal. To put in perspective how young she really is… I’ve legally been allowed to consume alcohol for 465 days now. To read Emily’s point of view of the weekend festivities, click here ! We held secret roommate meetings, when Emily was out of the house, of course, about two months prior to this past weekend. It drove her absolutely insane that she couldn’t know anything, besides she had to show up Friday night in a sparkly dress. Here’s how we planned the perfect 21 st birthday for our bestie... Food – Some might say this is the most important part of a party and I would have to agree. We were looking out for our personal well-being of the weekend and chose carbs and more carbs. For Friday night’s meal, we had spaghetti, chicken alfredo, mozzarella sticks, garlic bread,

My Fall Bucket List

Image
The temperature is dropping, football is starting and I think it’s safe to say… fall is almost here! Well, officially fall will be here on September 22 nd . What better way to celebrate one of my favorite seasons, then doing a fall bucket list? It may not all get accomplished, but I’ll try my best. In no particular order, check it out: Make and eat caramel apples Pick apples and make an apple pie Go to a corn maze Carve or paint a pumpkin with my housemates Have a “Friendsgiving" Eat ALL the pumpkin pie (with whip cream – of course!) Go to Suter’s Produce Make chili soup Dress up for Halloween with my housemates Take fall pictures Make pumpkin cookies or muffins Watch Halloween movies outside I am a lover of all things pumpkin-flavored, caramel, sweet treats, sweatshirt weather, color-changing leaves and fall traditions. This is a start to my fall bucket list, and I hope I can check a few off with my four best friends. I know in the future, after college, these are the memories I
