The Answers to Content Marketing
Even as things start to return to normal, there is still a lot of uncertainty about how you should market your business (or even your own personal account) during a pandemic. You may be questioning how it will look to your customers/followers or how much you should be talking about COVID-19. Whether you’re an essential business and you’re at your busiest or a business who has had its doors shut for months, it’s important to continue promoting your business through content marketing.
Content marketing has always been important. It’s a way for businesses to remain in touch with customers – no matter the circumstances. During times of feeling distant, content marketing may be the only thing connecting you to your customers. Use this to your advantage and stay at the forefront of your customers’ minds by promoting a healthy, safe environment and letting them know you’re still here for them.
Five Content Marketing Strategies for Your Business
1. Inform customers of new guidelines + procedures. As most businesses have opened their doors to the public again, there are many new rules and regulations to be followed. Your customers will likely be itching to get out of the house and engage in social interaction – whether that’s meeting with clients, heading to local restaurants or shopping at your storefront. It’s important as individuals start venturing out again, you let them know the steps you are taking for their safety and the betterment of the community.
2. Be mindful of photo/video content. We all know that photos and videos perform the best on social media – there’s no denying that. However, during a pandemic, it’s important to be extra cautious of the type of content you post. Depending on the guidelines of your state, if masks are required at work – make sure all photos posted publicly are following the accurate guidelines and requirements.
3. Include a COVID-19 update on your website. If you haven’t updated your website yet with any changes that may be occurring for your business (capacity or adjusted business hours), be sure to do so right away. If you have already done so, but your actions and regulations have changed, be sure to update your website accordingly.
4. Venture outside of the box and be creative. Keep your customers in a good mood and smiling – we could all use a little extra positivity right now. With less face-to-face time and more virtual connections, be sure to keep your business top-of-mind with your customers. Get creative in how you share content and connect with customers. Maybe it’s by implementing a monthly email campaign to touch base with customers or increasing your video content to showcase new products, services and other company updates. Either way, we encourage you to continue to provide great content for your customers.
5. Be engaging, but sensitive. It’s likely your audience falls under a wide array of categories and personal opinions. Do your best to keep all political views off of your business page. The COVID-19 pandemic has surely affected EVERYONE. It’s important that as we deal with these changes, we continue to make sure our content is compassionate and empathetic to everyone. Do your best to provide content that is positive, inspiring, relatable and sometimes maybe even a bit lighthearted, too.
Sorry for the informative blog that might have been boring to read for a college student. I wrote this blog during my summer internship, which can be very helpful to business owners who are looking for answers on content marketing. I promise next week's blog will be fun.... maybe!
