Party Planning: Em Brock's 21st Birthday

This past weekend, my roommates and I celebrated a national holiday. No, we didn’t celebrate national daughter’s day or the first day of fall, but Emily Brock’s 21st birthday. The baby of the crew is FINALLY 21 and legal. To put in perspective how young she really is… I’ve legally been allowed to consume alcohol for 465 days now. We held secret roommate meetings, when Emily was out of the house, of course, about two months prior to this past weekend. It drove her absolutely insane that she couldn’t know anything, besides she had to show up Friday night in a sparkly dress. Here’s how we planned the perfect 21st birthday for our bestie...

Food – Some might say this is the most important part of a party and I would have to agree. We were looking out for our personal well-being of the weekend and chose carbs and more carbs. For Friday night’s meal, we had spaghetti, chicken alfredo, mozzarella sticks, garlic bread, salad, veggies, appetizers and the most important part – dessert! Our roommate’s mom makes cakes for a living and she exceeded all expectations.

Decorations – When I say Emily LOVES light blue…it quite possibly could be considered an obsession. All the decorations, including balloons, streamers, plates, napkins and forks were all light blue. We found a light blue decoration pack on Amazon that included a variety of blue balloons, a happy birthday sign and much more. It made it easy and we got the most for our money.

Gifts – The gift I gave Emily was getting our nails done. It doubled as quality friend time, which is always nice. Can you guess what color her nails were? Hint – the color has been said already in this blog.

Party Prep – To prep for the party, we prepared and made some of the food on Thursday night and had a list of everything we needed to do on Friday. Days prior, we made last-minute shopping trips to the store to ensure we had all we needed to throw the perfect party.

Day of Events - On Friday morning, we cleaned and rearranged the furniture. We kind of forced Emily to leave the house all of Friday so she was gone from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. so we could decorate, have the food done and ourselves ready. The celebration continued onto Saturday where our theme was a “little white lie” t-shirt party. For the theme, we each wore a white t-shirt that… you guessed it… had a lie on it! My shirt said, “I’m Single” and my boyfriend’s shirt said, “Ready to Mingle.” I thought it was clever, but he thought it was dumb (boys… am I right?).

We had a great weekend celebrating the one who always makes us laugh and her 21 years of life. We always have fun on the weekends, but this weekend was special because of Emily. In conclusion, as roommates, we may pursue careers in party planning and balloon art if college doesn’t work out! Happy birthday, EB. Here’s to many more birthdays and legal claws.
